Alpe di Mera, summer with the family

Nature and fun with Meraviglio the explorer squirrel

alpe di mera family summer

Alpe di Mera is an enchanted place. A small car-free village, at an altitude of 1,500 metres, with the most beautiful view of Monte Rosa in all of Valsesia. Here children can run and play safely, and parents or grandparents can accompany them to spend pleasant days thanks to the splendid exposure to the sun and the accessible altitude.

Come to Alpe di Mera to experience new adventures and discoveries with Meraviglio the squirrel explorer, who has brought to light two new wooden villages, in the Boschetto and Campo area! What is hidden along the paths, in the parks and in the woods?

Who is Meraviglio and what does his story tell?

"Like many places in the world, Alpe di Mera also takes its name from the explorer who discovered it, Marvel the squirrel. In distant times, when nature was so wild as to make the territory impenetrable, a little being small enough to be able to enter it without difficulty, sifted through this land, certain that it was hiding something interesting from it. But the small size was not the only advantage of Meraviglio: he could climb the tallest trees, up to twenty meters, and jump almost flying from one top to another. This made him a perfect explorer, only he could do it!

And so it was that after years of research, his suspicion was confirmed: the remains of an ancient civilization had been completely hidden by vegetation, but he had found them. Of course, how strange this civilization must have been.. a large ship next to a small lake, a raft, strange communication systems, tribal masks, underground tunnels and rope bridges.. certainly they were very skilled builders, but also navigators, and above all they loved have fun.

But what did they want to do with their original secret passages, forts and boats? This Marvel was never able to discover it, but perhaps you can do it, together with its great-grandchildren of course, who still roam these woods in an attempt to complete the search. If, looking up, you see one of them sneaking up the trunk of a tree, call him: “Wonderful?”, and you will surely become great exploration friends!”

Let's discover the two playgrounds together!

The Cove of Meraviglio
The Den of Meraviglio
Il covo di meraviglio

The first playground that we want to present to you is called "il Covo". It is located in the Campo area and was built in summer 2020.

An area entirely dedicated to little explorers of Monte Rosa, beautiful, safe and freely accessible even on the snow during the winter season, surrounded by green meadows and rhododendrons in the summer.

A few steps from the arrival station of the Mera chairlift swings, slides, rope walls, small Tibetan bridges to cross, a large pirate ship to explore and a raft to cross the lake are waiting to be explored. To reach it, just take the road that crosses the center of Mera up to the Campo bar-restaurant area.

It is a dirt road, wide and flat, suitable for everyone, lasting about 15 minutes. Next to the games you will find the Campo Bar Restaurant, a place that has an internal room and a large wooden terrace. It overlooks where the children play and is perfect for watching them, or for a snack with them while they catch their breath! Continuing a few more steps you will find La Casera Bianca, a farmhouse at high altitude surrounded by animals and nature.

The lair of meraviglio

The second playground of Mera is called "La tana" and is located in the grove area, one of the most panoramic and loved of our alp!

Meraviglio, the squirrel explorer, brought it to light in the summer of 2021, and worked hard to make it open to everyone, and to make available to little explorers who visit Mera for the summer, a map with all the routes and points of interest that he has discovered in these years of research in the Alps.

To join the two parks there are a pedestrian and a cycle/pedestrian path, both in a ring. Along the way you will find panels to play and learn with Meraviglio, panoramic and thematic points, discover them all on the map and then in Mera!
